Now, don’t be fooled, dear readers, for Tupu’anga Coffee isn’t a mere newcomer to the Kiwi scene. Nope, we’ve been percolating in New Zealand for a while, gracing our community café sites in Otara and Mt Wellington. But hold onto your barista hats, because this time, oh this time, we’ve got a place to call our very own, stamped with the distinct Tupu’anga Coffee branding. The stars aligned when a little vacant building in the cozy embrace of Mt Eden waved at us, and we couldn’t resist waving back.

You see, our journey began way back on the lush landscapes of the Kingdom of Tonga, where we set our roots in 2010. We had a nifty café right at our manufacturing plant, nestled alongside the coffee seedlings we nurture before they’re embraced by the earth and turned into the beans you hold dear. Fast forward to now, and our Auckland venture marks a new chapter in the Tupu’anga saga.

Picture this: the day the “Tupu’anga Coffee” sign saw the light of day, the universe seemed to grin a little wider. Standing in that empty building before the renovations, we couldn’t help but imagine the stories that would soon be shared, the coffee-filled chats, the curious gazes of passersby. And boy, did the Mt Eden community warmly embrace us. It’s as if the coffee-scented winds whispered secrets of our journey to every nook and cranny.

“Oh, what’s in a name?” Shakespeare once mused. Well, let us unravel the mystery! “Tupu” embodies the art of growing, springing up, and taking root—essentially, being born. “Anga”? That’s the flair, the character, the very essence that makes something unique. Now, put these together, and voila! You’ve got “Tupu’anga,” which is like saying “grow from your roots.” Deep, right? It’s the spirit that infuses every sip you take.

And hey, what’s the deal with this coffee anyway? Is it really from the Pacific? Tonga, perhaps? Yes, indeed! Our grand opening, a spectacle that took place on a date we’ll always remember, saw a gathering of close friends and family, the folks who’ve stood beside us on this aromatic expedition. Adding an artistic splash were Charles and Janine Williams, along with the masterful Ben Works, who crafted visuals that encapsulate our journey from Tongan fields to Mt Eden’s cups.
